Over a year after Sirius and XM announced that they intened to merge, the FCC has finally given the deal the green light. The Department of Justice had already ruled that the two companies merging would not be a monopoly, and the final decision was on the FCC. Yesterday the FCC finally announced that they approve of the deal and now the two companies can go as planned. Both companies were stuck in a low growth cycle because of the impending decision. Consumers were reluctant to buy new satellite radios and service until the deal had been ruled on. Also car manufacturers will have another year of vehicles that do not have satellite radios that will work with both services. The merged company will save money in many ways due to the synergy between the two companies. They also plan on offering a-la-carte packages where consumers will be able to pick and choose channels that they want to subscribe to.
